SS Cap Arcona

SS Cap Arcona leaving Hamburg on one of her 91 successful voyages. A time that should have lasted forever.

The most horrifying disaster in maritime history, told from the beginning.

As is evident by this sites theming, there is one German liner that is held in higher regard than all others. Yet, if there was one from any shipping line or country that deserves to be well known and remembered in the public eye: SS Cap Arcona is the only one it could be. Despite in its later years having likely: “the most horrifying disaster in maritime history” as she was bombed by the RAF killing over 5000 concentration camp prisoners – this ship is horribly forgotten. It only seems to resurface, slandered under the nickname of “The Nazi Titanic” -completely killing its importance. The Cap Arcona is not some insignificant variation of the Titanic despite that film, it never was and was always its own story even if not remembered that way. The ship sailed for twelve great years from 1927-1939 beloved by thousands, and was nicknamed “The Queen of the South Atlantic”, being built hopeful under the Weimar Republic before being abused by the Nazi Regime in its later years. This story will cover the whole timeline of this ship, from her glory years in detail to that awful end as well as some of the people who watched her come, and go as will you.
