SS Kronprinz Wilhelm

Onlookers watch as the Kronprinz Wilhelm passes one of its predecessors: SS Kaiserin Maria Theresia departing their home port of Bremerhaven.

SS Kronprinz Wilhelm – The most legendary tale at sea never told:

Here is the complete, long story of the SS Kronprinz Wilhelm: the ship that inspired the creation of this website and makes up the logo.

The “Kronprinz” was the third ship Germany built with four funnels and probably the most disregarded of all of them. It transitioned from luxury liner to a much-feared pirate and warship that served on both sides of the First World War. It captured and sank 15 ships single-handedly and was so feared by those at sea for being untouchable, it was dubbed: “The Ghost of the Atlantic”. Even in peacetime this vessel had such a ridiculous career: hitting icebergs, rogue waves, sinking smaller ships, carrying the rich and famous and smashing transatlantic speed records. But despite having one of the greatest careers of any ocean liner in history, this vessel and those who sailed on it have been completely forgotten as if it never had happened – even by maritime enthusiasts.

This is the first comprehensive documentation of the full twenty-two years this vessel existed on this earth, before being dismantled, and having had virtually every piece erased from existence. A full century after the Kronprinz was removed from history, its story will begin again.
